Americans with Disabilities Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was put into law in 1990. Accessibility guidelines were published in 1991. Provisions to address accessibility to recreational facilities were “reserved” until 2002. In 2004 the guidelines (ADAAB) were merged with the 1968 Architectural Barriers Act (ABA). In 2005, California published their ADA-ABA Accessibility Guidelines

From the beginning, Topper has been designing recreational facilities that meet all ADA guidelines.

Pictured are two samples of ADA kickouts on fishing docks built by Topper. Note the lower rail height and pole gaps next to the kick-outs.

Topper gangways/ramps serve major ferry terminals carrying thousands of passenges each day. Our design engineers take great care to ensure ADA compliance.
